Spring’s First Sign: A Promise of Renewal After the Storm

Five months ago, Hurricane Helene swept through our lives, leaving behind a path of destruction I never imagined witnessing firsthand. Our home was spared, but our connection to the outside world was severed–our bridge washed away, the road destroyed. For two and a half months, an ATV was our only means of access, a stark reminder of how fragile and uncertain life can be.

Yet, the greatest loss wasn’t physical. The landscape changed, trees and plants swept away, but what left the deepest mark was the absence of our neighbors–the people who made this place feel like home. Their absence is felt in the quiet, in the spaces where laughter and life once filled the air.

And yet, nature whispers a truth we often forget: life finds a way.

Yesterday, I stepped outside and noticed the first signs of spring–tiny green shoots pushing through the earth, a bud unfolding toward the sun. I captured this moment in a photo, not just as a reminder of the changing season but as a symbol of resilence.

Spring doesn’t erase the past, nor does it ask us to forget. Instead, it gently reminds us that after loss, there is renewal. That even after the heaviest storms, life continues, in ways big and small.
