The Soul Felt Its Worth

O holy night the stars are brightly shining

It is the night of our dear Savior’s birth

Long lay the world in sin and error pining

‘Til he appeared and the soul felt its worth.

“O Holy Night” is by far my and my deceased mother’s favorite Christmas carol. The most heartfelt and well received Christmas gift I ever gave her was the year I sang and recorded this beautiful carol for her on a CD, signing off, “I love you, Mom.” By mid-February my father told me if he heard it one more time, he’d go crazy. She heeded him no mind and played it at least once everyday way into the spring.

I love everything about the song, from the melody to the lyrics which proclaim Jesus’ message of love, peace and hope. But one phrase, in particular, jumped out as I was making my mother’s recording. I reread the lyrics several times to make sure I was understanding it correctly: “Til he appeared and the soul felt its worth.”

Jesus’ Main Mission

Deep in my heart, I believe that was Jesus’ main mission. That is, to awaken people to their divinity; the God within themselves. Did he not say, “The kingdom of God is within” and “You can do as much as me and even more.” We are like Jesus. Our true nature is Godly. That makes us pretty darn worthy!

My Christmas wish for you is one of pure Joy! Put aside your judgments of self and others in order to know your worth. You are a sparkling gem; a gift to the world! Yes, you!!

Merry Christmas! Sparkle on…
