The Power of Your Subconscious Mind

During the holidays, there are internal and external pressures creating a lot of emotions and feelings, which for a lot of us are anything but “Merry.” For many it’s the fear of gaining unwanted pounds. Others dread family members that push their buttons. Adding more to our to-do list is daunting to say the least. Then there’s the added financial pressure for folks. The ongoing threat of covid doesn’t help much either! Perhaps for you, you’re experiencing all of the above. What if there is a simple technique to actually give you more joy this holiday season? What if you could feel in control of your choices and reactions from food to relationships? Well, there is and you can. I have a simple exercise which can be implemented anytime and anyplace. It’s guaranteed to not only improve your holiday, but also put you on solid ground for 2022. It’s executed by accessing the power of your subconscious mind.

Access the Power of Your Subconscious Mind

What is the subconscious mind? The subconscious mind is responsible for 90% of your daily experiences. That’s right – 90%! It governs and holds your emotions, feelings, automatic functions, long-term memory, habit patterns, addictions, self-preservation/instincts, creativity/imagination and spirituality. Most interesting, it does not have the ability to use discernment. The subconscious mind literally can’t tell the difference between what is false or true. Whatever you think, feel and imagine is the truth to your subconscious. As a result, your actions and reactions are based on that “truth.”

Many try to invoke change by willpower alone and often fail. Willpower engages the conscious mind – only 10% of our daily experiences. More rapid and effective change is created by engaging the subconscious involving the imagination. When willpower and imagination are in competition with one another, the imagination wins every time.

Albert Einstein‘s quote perfectly states the power of our imaginations, “Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world.”

The Power of Your Subconscious for a Happy Holiday

Emilee Coue, a French psychologist and pharmacist introduced a popular method of psychotherapy, self-improvement based on optimistic autosuggestion engaging the power of your subconscious mind. As an hypnotist, I highly recommend autosuggestion for my clients to assist in reaching their goals – it works! But it must be done on a consistent basis as follows:

Place yourself in a comfortable position and take a few deep breaths. Recite the following either silently or out loud:

I feel calm… I feel relaxed… I feel in control … I am calm… I am relaxed… I am in control… I feel safe… I feel secure … I’m letting go… As I let go, all my muscle groups begin to relax… I feel calm… I feel relaxed… I feel in control…

As my muscle groups relax, a beam of sunlight enters my body at my rib cage and spreads relaxation and warmth throughout my body… It rids me of all negative thoughts and feelings… leaving me with only positive thoughts and positive feelings… I feel calm… I feel relaxed… I feel in control…

My subconscious mind is now open to receive the helpful and beneficial suggestion I’m about to give myself.

* Place positive affirmation here

I feel calm… I feel relaxed… I feel in control… I am calm… I am relaxed… I am in control.

In the position of the asterisk create a positive affirmation that promotes well-being. For example, if you are concerned about gaining weight this holiday season, you would affirm something like this: “This holiday season I easily and effortlessly make healthy food choices.” Or if you are consumed with dread about being with a particular person, “This holiday season I am simply amazed how I’m able to focus on the good within _______.” Regarding finances, “This holiday season I calmly and confidently manage and stay within my budget.”

Keep your affirmations positive, short and succinct. And most importantly, during the exercise feel the meaning of the words and imagine your desire actually happening. (Never practice this while you are driving.)
