Is it possible to have harmony in your life when everything in the world seems to be in extreme discord? Marcus Auerlius and many other great philosophers, teachers and healers of past and present think so. I agree and practice these following tips when my life feels topsy-turvy.
Three tips for having more harmony in your life:
- Self-acceptance. Accept ALL of who, where and what you are now. It’s resistance to what is that causes discord! Acceptance allows you to think objectively and clearly as to what’s in your power to change
- Self -compassion. We don’t have to wait until we are perfect, until we receive other’s approval, until others show us kindness to feel worthy of love. Self-compassion gives us the opportunity to experience love and gentleness from within. We can soothe our own pain.
- Breathe. There is power in your breath! Breathe deeply whenever you feel off-centered or off-balanced. Taking a deep breath, expanding your belly, holding three counts and exhaling for six counts stimulates the vagus nerve releasing feel good hormones from the brain promoting harmony within.
Now, more than ever before, we are each being called to do our part to better the planet. I believe a huge part of that is self-responsibility. Responsibility in accepting, loving and nourishing ourselves, our very souls. In this, we have more to offer the world.
