What, why, and how...

Life is more complex and unpredictable than ever.  Things are changing so drastically, both personally and globally, that often it's overwhelming, to say the least.  Some of you may be deeply concerned about the economy, the threats to our security at home and abroad, the environment or education.  Others of you may have serious family, work, or health issues or a combination of all these.  But how often do you think about your own Self?  How concerned are you about your own inner well-being?  How can you connect with your needs and the desires of your heart?  What changes need to be made within you?  What can you do to truly make a difference; to step out of hopelessness into empowerment?

We, as a civilization, are at a crossroad.  We can no longer ignore the voice of our souls. They are in need of deep nourishment and expression.  Without these, it will be difficult to adjust and cope in these transforming times.  Now is the time to once and for all let go of the negative thoughts and beliefs that keep us stuck in a life we truly don't want or have succumbed to just to survive and not thrive.  Now is the time to align the quality of our thinking with the needs of our bodies and the desires of our hearts.  To claim the power that is our birthright that leads to a life of joy, peace, love, and abundance in all ways.

Journey to Self Love using I AM Affirmations:

Each Journey to the Self meditation contains one I AM affirmation to integrate empowering messages into every level of your Being!

The I AM comes from "I AM THAT I AM," the name God revealed to Moses when he said, "This is My name forever, and this is My memorial unto all generations (Exodus 4:13).  You were created in the image of the I AM.  The I AM is the God-like nature that exists in you!  To be aware of the I AM that is within you is to experience life from the standpoint of higher consciousness and to be fully integrated in mind, body and spirit.

Affirmations are powerful, positive statements about you.  Each time you make a mental affirmation, your subconscious mind hears it and integrates the reality of that statement.  The subconscious does not edit or filter; it simply acts on our statements.  It is important, therefore, that you feed yourself positive thoughts about who you are.  I AM affirmations are especially powerful statements.  Whenever you say, " I AM..." you are saying "God in me is..."  You are summoning God's power within you to bring about change.  Whether you say "I am sick, "I am tired," I am having a great day" or "I am healthy," you are calling upon the God-like nature within to create your life experiences.

When first practicing I AM Affirmations, I had a difficult time overriding negative self-talk with the positive.  It was only when I began practicing meditation in combination with I AM Affirmations that I was able to experience the feelings of the affirmations.  Once I was able to fully experience the feelings of these words, I was then able to believe them.  My negative self-talk became less frequent and when it did arise, I was able to shift to positive truths naturally and with ease.

Journey to Self Love using nature scenery...

Being in nature quiets the thinking, linear mind - there is no order, just existence.  Therefore, you feel nature, its essence.  You feel your Self, your True Essence.  You sense your oneness with All That Is.  You realize you are not separate.

The Journey to Self Love meditations feature beautiful nature scenes accompanying the meditation themes.  These scenes propel your mind on a wondrous journey through the depths of the ocean, beside a majestic waterfall, through a lush green forest, to romantic sunsets on the beach and much, much more. 

Journey to Self Love using gemstones...

Everyone and everything is energy existing on a particular level of frequency.  Gemstones hold extremely high frequencies that assist in healing and connecting you with your Divine Self.  Integrative medical facilities are more frequently recommending the use of gemstones as they enhance life and are an integral part of mind, body and spirit healing.

With each I AM Affirmation, a gemstone is recommended for use to augment and fortify the meditation.  For instance, I recommend citrine for the "I AM Joy" meditation, as it has the power to impart joy to all who behold it.  Gloom and negativity have no place around citrine.  It helps you develop a positive attitude and to look forward optimistically, going joyously with the flow instead of hanging on to the past.

Journey to Self Love using aromatherapy...

You do not need essential oils to meditate, but the subtle and yet powerful life forces they carry with them make them incredibly effective in relaxation, by healing and strengthening the different energy zones or chakras (Sanskrit word for wheel) within the body.

The Journey to the Self meditations target each of the seven major chakras within the body.  " I AM Self-Acceptance" meditation, for example, is intended to strengthen and heal the solar plexus, the energy center located slightly above the navel which harnesses power, vitality, will, confidence, and assertiveness.  The aromatherapy blend I suggest is clove, juniper, lemon, sage or rosemary to enhance feelings of self-acceptance and empowerment and to strengthen the solar plexus.

Journey to Self Love using awareness and action...

Each meditation/affirmation is accompanied by a worksheet of questions to heighten your awareness of limiting thoughts, patterns and beliefs and to gently guide you to actions that will usher you into a life of joy, peace, love and empowerment.  You will reconnect with your inner wisdom and gain clarity that will allow you to create your life deliberately.  You will discover that you always have choices no matter what your life situation is and you will develop new skills to choose powerfully what you want.  Your worksheets will serve as a map of your consciousness to which you will refer over and over again.

The Journey to the Self audio meditations were created as an adjunct to the written meditations and affirmations.  They will quickly move you into a relaxed state where the soothing voice-over affirmations can be easily integrated.

The field of healing music is rapidly growing.  In "The Musical Hormone," Dr. Norman Weinberger (MuSICA Research Notes, Vol. IV, No.2) states that "Music has well established psychological effects, including the induction and modification of cognitive states, moods and emotions." 

If chosen well, music can be medicine for the mind and soul.  Twenty-plus years ago researchers experimented with plants and classical music.  They found that the soothing music caused plants to bloom more quickly and become healthier, while loud rock and roll music had a negative effect on the plants.  It stands to reason then that music also affects the human organism in profound ways.

You can use the audio-meditations that accompany this book at any time to take a Journey to Self Love break:  at the office to inspire creativity or to reduce stress, in the comfort of your own home as your daily meditation, or as a backdrop in the room to create a beautiful, relaxed environment. 

How to Journey to Self Love...

I encourage you, if you have not done so already, to create your own private sanctuary.   This could be a hole room or a small corner of your bedroom or den but make sure it is a space that is all yours.  Decorate it with symbolic objects that state what you are all about:  pictures, statues, fabrics, flowers, feathers, artwork, and so on.  These will help reinforce your affirmations.

In this space, read the Gem of the day (preferably in the morning or before going to sleep at night) and reflect on the beautiful nature scene.

The following is not a must (except for breathing), but can deeply enhance your meditation experience:  Clasp the appropriate gemstone, diffuse the corresponding aromatherapy in the air and focus on your breathing.

Because the breath has no form, it has since ancient times been equated with Spirit.  The German word for breathing, Atem, is derived from the ancient Indian (Sanskrit) word, Atman, meaning the indwelling divine spirit of God.  Also, the Greek word pneuma (from which English gets "pneumatic") means both breath and spirit.

The fact that the breath has no form is one of the reasons why breath awareness is an extremely effective way of calming the mind chatter.  Your mind wanders less when it is focused on the breath.

As you focus on the breath and the mind begins to quiet, begin to repeat the I AM affirmations silently or out loud.    I AM Peace for example:  On the inhale say, "I AM," on the exhale say "Peace."  The affirmation then becomes a mantra, further quieting the mind chatter and opening your soul to the I AM,  the God within and without.  Repeat the affirmation/mantra until you feel peaceful.  Feel and allow the essence of peace to fill every cell of your Being--head to toe!

Read each Gem consecutively or choose the one that meets your need on that particular day.   Meditate on your need and ask your Self which Gem would help you that day.  Even better... as you grow in expanded awareness, keep your own journal and create your own Gems!
