Gem of the Week: Planting Seeds of Love
Winter is always a time of introspection for me. I spend more time reading, contemplating and meditating than during any of the other seasons. I've had a particular rich winter this year in terms of filling my heart with love and joy. But here it is the eve of first of spring and my thoughts are fully focused on daffodils, sunshine, opened windows, cleaning and planting. Spring fever? You betcha!
I googled "spring fever" out of curiosity and found some interesting facts. In spring, with the increased daylight, we have increased levels of serotonin giving us that "lust for life" and more energy which makes us feel restless and just itching to get outdoors. Also, "love is in the air" due to other hormonal shifts in the spring. Obstetricians report high rates of unplanned pregnancies in springtime.
Not everyone, however, loves the spring. Many suffer horribly from allergies this time of year and for some, major depression deepens pushing them over the edge, increasing springtime suicides. This is a sobering fact and has made me extra mindful of spreading love this spring. We don't know the battle someone may be fighting. A simple smile can change their entire day and a kind word could save someone's life!
Simply showing up with an open heart filled
with love makes a positive difference.
May your heart burst wide open this spring showering the world with love. May your very presence make a positive difference. May your spring planting include seeds of love. We cannot underestimate the ripple effect or beautiful blooms all of this creates.
Hmmm...I think I will plant colorful zinnias this spring where I normally plant marigolds. I can't wait to raise these windows!
Happy planting, Happy spring!
